Paste text copied from a PDF, OCR result, Notion export, email, or AI response. The result updates locally as you type. Lines containing only spaces or tabs count as blank, while every line containing visible text stays separate.
Open the tool above ↑Press Ctrl + H. Find ^p^p, replace it with ^p, and choose Replace All. Repeat until Word reports zero replacements. This handles consecutive paragraph marks; a line containing spaces or tabs is not truly empty and may need those characters removed first.
In VS Code or Sublime Text, enable regular expressions and find ^[\t ]*\r?\n with multiline matching, then replace it with nothing. In Notepad++, use Edit → Line Operations → Remove Empty Lines (Containing Blank characters) for whitespace-only rows too.
04 / The important difference
A line break ends one line and starts the next. A blank line is an empty row between two content lines, usually created by two consecutive line endings. Removing that empty row still leaves one line ending between the surrounding lines.

It removes the empty row between paragraphs, so the paragraphs become adjacent lines, but it does not join their text onto one line. If you need to keep blank-line paragraph boundaries, use Preserve Paragraphs instead.
An empty row counts as blank, including a row that contains only spaces or tab characters. Any line containing another character is preserved exactly as written.
